Butano Park and the rugged coastline of the Pacific Ocean anchor this 2015 study of the Santa Cruz Mountains' western slopes. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, rising from Franklin Point on the shore to the heights of Butano Ridge and Chalk Mtn. A complex network of waterways, including Whitehouse Cr and Gazos Cr, carves through the landscape, feeding into coastal features like Bean Hollow Lake and the Reservoir de los Frijole.
