The landscape is a network of small, family-named hamlets and mill sites such as Taylors Mills, Gordons Corner, and Lafayette Mills, which are linked by several waterways including Matchaponix Brook and Weamaconk Creek.

Evidence of the area's early settlement is preserved at the Old Tennent Ch and the Old Scots Cem, while the mid-20th-century character is reflected in the presence of the Marlboro Airport and Old Bridge Airport. The expansion of residential and commercial districts, captured in later purple photorevisions, begins to surround older cores like Englishtown and Tennent, tracing the transition from an agrarian and historic landscape into a more suburban corridor during the 1970s.
