French Village and Hazel Run sit within a landscape defined by the crossing of the ST. Francois Co and Ste. Genevieve Co line. This region, where the northern reaches of the Saint Francois Mountains begin to rise, is heavily marked by small family and community burial grounds, including Saint Anne Cem, Byington Cem, and Marvin Chapel Cem. These sites are scattered along the drainages of Terre Bleue Creek and Salem Cr, following the traditional settlement patterns of the Ozark foothills.
