Fruitvale and the surrounding valley of the Weiser River anchor this 2013 survey of Adams County, where agriculture and federal land management define the rural landscape. Much of the terrain is dominated by the Payette National Forest, with named ridges and gulches such as Hornet Ridge and Cold Spring Gulch providing a framework for the rugged topography. Human settlement is clustered along the valley floor, including the small communities of Starkey, Glendale, and Hoover.
