Garland Prairie dominates this northern Arizona landscape, where the open expanse of the high plateau meets the dense timber of the Kaibab National Forest and Coconino National Forest. The northern edge of the map is defined by the heavy infrastructure of the Santa Fe railroad and the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe line, which historically facilitated the movement of timber and goods through the region. In the east, the sprawling Navajo Army Depot indicates the strategic military importance of this corridor during the mid-20th century.
