Gaylord anchors this North Central Kansas landscape at the confluence of the North Fork Solomon River and Beaver Creek. The settlement pattern follows a grid of local streets like Elm St and 1st St, with the agricultural character of the region reinforced by the presence of the Kirwin Main Canal and numerous tributary systems including Spring Creek and West Beaver Creek. Local history is preserved at the Gaylord Cemetery just north of town and the more isolated Christ Cemetery to the northwest. This 2009 snapshot shows a community defined by its proximity to the river fork and the essential water management infrastructure that supports the surrounding Smith County farmland.
