Gibbon sits at the confluence of several watercourses and ridges within the mountainous terrain of the Blue Mountains region. The Umatilla River serves as the primary drainage through the northern portion of the quadrangle, joined by tributaries such as Hagen Cr and Bobsled Cr. This 2017 survey reveals an intricate network of ridgelines and canyons within the Umatilla National Forest, including the evocatively named Starve-to-Death Ridge and Plenty Bear Ridge. The topography is further defined by prominent peaks like Wildhorse Mtn and Reservation Mtn. Significant forest access is documented through numerous Department of Agriculture routes, including Nat For Dev Rd 130 and Nat For Dev Rd 113, which navigate the complex elevation changes between Boston Canyon and Forks Ridge.
