Hull-Oakes Log Pond serves as a focal point of the local timber economy in this portion of the Coast Range. The settlement of Glenbrook sits at the confluence of several mountain drainages, where the Hammer Creek and Nye Creek meet. The geography is defined by a series of prominent rises named for local figures or landmarks, including McCloskey Ridge, Eisenschmidt Ridge, and Doris Stevens Ridge. Water defines the western half of the quadrangle, where the South Fork Alsea River is fed by numerous tributaries such as Peak Creek and Fall Creek. Noted for its dramatic elevation changes, the area contains Alsea Falls and Green Peak Falls near the base of Green Peak. The network of logging roads, such as Miller Rd and S Fork Rd, underscores the industry that has long shaped this landscape.
