About this map

Glendora and San Dimas occupy the southern foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in this modern topographical study. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the residential grid of the Los Angeles Basin to the steep, canyon-riven slopes of the Angeles National Forest. Significant hydrological management is evident in the northern half of the sheet, where the San Gabriel River is impounded by the San Gabriel Reservoir and Morris Reservoir. Further south, the urban interface is marked by drainage systems such as Little Dalton Wash and Big Dalton Wash, which descend from the high ridges of Glendora Mtn and Johnstone Peak. The map detail traces the expansion of suburban neighborhoods into the hills, showing the interplay between natural landforms like South Hills and the built environment at the edge of the forest.
