Goodnoe Hills and the surrounding high country of Klickitat County are defined by a network of steep canyons and sharp ridges as they appeared in the mid-1960s. The landscape is marked by the presence of small, named settlements like Harrison and Rassmusson, which sit atop the plateau above the deep drainage of Rock Creek. This area illustrates the challenges of early transportation in the Pacific Northwest, shown by the winding switchbacks of Newell Grade Road and Walker Grade that navigate the significant elevation changes. To the south, the terrain levels out near the feature known as The Burn, while a prominent Pipeline cuts across the southeastern portion of the quadrangle. Numerous water sources, including Squaw Creek, Chapman Creek, and several Springs, provided the essential resources for the homesteads and ranches scattered across Harrison Ridge.
