1968 Map of Grand Marais

USGS Topo · Published 1970

About this map

Lake Superior dominates the northern horizon of this Lake Superior shoreline study, where the Harbor of Refuge protects the settlement of Grand Marais. During the late 1960s, the area served as a critical maritime and aviation hub, anchored by the Radio Towers Coast Guard Station and the Grand Marais Airport. The landscape transition from the coast to the interior is defined by the Grand Sable State Forest and the eastern edge of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
