Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore dominates this Lake Superior shoreline in Alger County, marking the eastern end of one of Michigan's most distinct coastal landscapes. The expansive Grand Sable Dunes rise above the cold waters of Lake Superior, creating a massive natural barrier between the big lake and the interior waters of Grand Sable Lake. Near the eastern edge, the settlement of Grand Marais serves as the gateway to the dunes and the park, with Co Rd H 58 providing the primary land access.
