Continental Divide winds through the high desert of southwestern New Mexico, crossing the boundary between Grant and Luna Counties. This arid landscape is dominated by the prominent peak of Grandmother Mountain, which rises sharply above the surrounding plains. The drainage patterns on either side of the divide are clearly defined, featuring intermittent watercourses such as China Draw, Hay Draw, and Flat Canyon.
