About this map

The Machias River winds through the southwestern corner of this Aroostook County landscape, a region defined by a network of high ridges and isolated ponds. Notable peaks such as Greenlaw Mtn, Bishop Mtn, and Bald Mtn rise above the drainage basins of Greenlaw Stream and Moosehorn Stream. The topography is interconnected by several key timber and utility access routes, including Realty Rd and Greenlaw Stream Rd, which cross the township of t12 r8 Wels. This interior Maine wilderness remains largely dominated by its natural hydrography, with secluded water bodies like Moose Pond, Bishop Pond, and Sterling Pond scattered across the high ground between Bull Hill and Carr Pond Mtn. The map provides a detailed view of the water system feeding into the larger river networks, including McConnell Brook and Bald Mountain Brook.
