The Red Lake Indian Reservation dominates the northeastern and eastern portions of this landscape, showing a transition between agricultural clearings and dense wetland terrain. The Moose River meanders across the central section, serving as a primary drainage feature for the surrounding marshlands. Settlement is concentrated along the section lines, particularly near the Northwood Ch and an adjacent Cem which anchor the local community near the border of Marshall Co and Beltrami Co. The map also identifies significant protected lands, including the Northwood State Wildlife Management Area and the Grygla State Wildlife Management Area. This 1973 orthophotomap uses aerial imagery to reveal the complex patterns of drainage ditches and vegetation that characterize this region of Northern Minnesota.
