Guilford and its surrounding coastal hamlets are defined by a landscape where the Connecticut shoreline meets a complex network of glacial ponds and interior ridges. This 2018 survey documents the dense historical layering of the region, from the cluster of nineteenth-century cemeteries such as Alderbrook Cem and West Side Cem to the modern residential patterns around the Guilford Lakes. The topography transitions from the rocky outcrops of The Thimbles in Long Island Sound to the rising elevations of Race Hill and Walnut Hill in the north.
