Hicks Ranch and the namesake Harben Lake anchor this 2013 survey of the high desert terrain in eastern New Mexico. The landscape is defined by the ephemeral drainages that carve through the mesa, most notably Arroyo San Juan de Dios and Arroyo Potrillo. These seasonal watercourses dictate the historical patterns of ranching and land use across the township and range grids of T9N and T8N.
