Hatch Mesa dominates the central landscape of this Grand County region, positioned north of the small settlement at Floy. The topography is defined by the dramatic escarpment of the Book Cliffs, where high features like Horse Mesa and Trough Spring Ridge transition into the expansive Gunnison Valley to the northwest. This area serves as a rugged corridor for transportation and drainage, as seen in the path of Old US-50 and the various desert washes that cut through the terrain, including Little Grand Wash and Floy Wash.
