Hays serves as the central hub of this northern Montana landscape, situated at the mouth of Mission Canyon. The settlement's history is anchored by Saint Pauls Mission Cem, while the surrounding terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes between the high peaks of the Little Rocky Mountains and the expansive plains. The topography is deeply etched with coulees and canyons, including White Cow Canyon and Four Bear Coulee, which channel seasonal runoff into Little Peoples Cr.
