Hazen Hole Tank and a series of numbered water catchments define this arid reach of Coconino County, where the management of scarce surface water is the primary footprint on the land. The landscape is carved by seasonal drainage systems, most notably Sandstone Wash and Sand Creek, which flow through the high plateau. The infrastructure here is sparse and functional, centered on these tanks and draws that supported cattle ranching and land use in the early 21st century.
