The southwest corner of Chaco Culture National Historical Park anchors this high-desert landscape in the Eastern Navajo Agency. This area of McKinley County is defined by a sparse but essential network of service roads and high mesas, including the prominent geologic formation of Heart Rock. The terrain transitions from the rugged drainage patterns in the north to more defined valley floors crossed by Borrego Pass Rd and White Ridge Rd in the south. The mapping of Navajo Svc Rte 9 and Indian Svc Rte 481 reflects the modern infrastructure supporting this rural region, while smaller tracks like Heart Butte Rd and Little Spring Rd provide access to the more remote corners of the territory.
