The Alsea River winds through the southern reaches of this landscape, where the churning Hellion Rapids and steep Hellion Canyon define the river's path. Much of the surrounding territory is contained within the Siuslaw National Forest, characterized by high elevations like Table Mtn and Scott Mtn. The terrain is marked by significant geomorphic features, including the Upper Drift Creek Slide and the uniquely named Surveyors Benches. Forest service routes such as Nat For Dev Rd 52 and Nat For Dev Rd 308 provide access to remote ridges like Death Ridge and Peavine Ridge. Freshwater sources are abundant, from Ayers Lake to localized points like Klickitat Spring and Cold Spring, illustrating the complex drainage network of Drift Cr and its numerous forks that feed into the larger river systems of Lincoln County.
