Stecoah and Hidetown sit along the northern reaches of this mountain landscape, where narrow roads like Bill Crisp Rd and Hyde Town Rd follow the drainage of Dry Cr. The central terrain is defined by a series of high ridges and gaps, including Stecoah Gap, Sassafras Gap, and Bellcollar Gap, which separate the various coves and creek basins. Further south, the Nantahala River winds through the valley near Hewitt and Nantahala, paralleled by the highway and the steep slopes of Talc Mountain.
