The Little Saint Marys River meanders through a dense network of wetlands in this northeastern portion of Nassau County. This area of Florida is defined by its low-lying, hydric landscape, where numerous named drainage systems like Wilder Swamp, White Oak Swamp, and Spell Swamp converge toward the river. The settlement pattern is sparse, concentrated near the historic community of Lessie and the smaller locality of Evergreen.
