Hockett lies at a remote convergence of county boundaries in southern New Mexico, where the borders of Sierra, Luna, and Doña Ana counties meet. This arid landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the valley floor to the prominent peaks of the Sierra de las Uvas. Drainage patterns throughout the quadrangle are carved by seasonal watercourses like Placitas Arroyo, which flows from the mountain slopes toward the lower plains.

Infrastructure in this region remains sparse, primarily supporting ranching or local transport through a network of rural routes. Hatch Hwy NE (NM-26) cuts a straight line across the northwestern corner, passing near Thirtysix Canyon. Other unpaved paths, such as Las Uvas Diary Rd and Road A, provide access to the interior canyons including Horse Canyon, illustrating the rugged and isolated nature of the high desert terrain.
