Hole in the Rock and its namesake Hole in Rock Lake anchor this high-desert portion of Owyhee County, surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in 2013. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems and notable volcanic terrain, including the basaltic formations of the Black Rocks in the north and the high vantage of Big Hill to the southeast. Water is a critical and sparse resource here, traced through Big Jacks Cr and Sugar Cr.
