Hooks and the nearby settlement of Whaley sit at the center of this 2019 survey of eastern Bowie County. The landscape is defined by the managed waters of the Caney Creek Reservoir and the Elliott Creek Reservoir, which break the rolling woodlands south of the Interstate 30 corridor. A remarkable density of family and community burial grounds, including Wilder Cem, Antioch Cem, and Rock Hill Cem, are preserved across the quadrangle, reflecting the deep-rooted local heritage of the region.
