Noatak National Preserve defines the landscape of this 2017 survey, protecting a vast reach of arctic wilderness in the Northwest Arctic Borough. The most prominent topographic features are the Pupik Hills, which rise above the surrounding terrain in the northern half of the sheet. The hydrological focus is the Aniuk River, which meanders across the central portion of the map, carving a winding path through the valley floors. This map provides a modern record of one of the most untouched regions of Alaska, where the natural drainage patterns of the Aniuk River and the high elevation points of the Pupik Hills remain the primary landmarks in an area absent of permanent settlements or roads.
