Huntoon Valley occupies the center of this high-altitude landscape, where the state boundary between Nevada and California cuts diagonally across the basin. The terrain is defined by the high elevations of the Excelsior Mountains to the northwest and the Adobe Hills to the southwest. Water sources are scarce in this arid environment, making Huntoon Spring and the intermittent drainage of Huntoon Cr vital landmarks for understanding the historical movement of people and livestock through these ranges.
