About this map

Huttig and the Ouachita River bottomlands define this portion of the Arkansas and Louisiana border region in the early 1980s. The landscape is shaped by the timber industry and river management, visible through the 40 Acre Millpond and 20 Acre Millpond adjacent to the main town site. Along the river, the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge encompasses a network of wetlands and sloughs, including Grand Marais Gum Ridge and Horseshoe Slough. Of particular note for local history is the Felsenthal Lock and Dam (Under Construction), marking a major engineering phase for the waterway. Small settlements and crossroads like Bolding and Dollar Junction connect via the Missouri Pacific railroad and the Old Railroad Grade. Genealogists may find interest in the Old Lapile Cem and Harper Springs Ch, which anchor the rural communities between Lapile Creek and the state line.
