The timber and mountain landscape of eastern Marion and Linn counties comes into sharp focus in this mid-2010s study. The North Santiam River serves as the central artery for the area, flowing past Idanha and the specialized industrial site at Idanha Log Pond. The settlement pattern reflects the area's geography, with the established community and New Idanha positioned near the river, while the surrounding high ground of Hoover Ridge and Coopers Ridge is defined by an extensive network of Forest Service development roads. High-elevation features like Bachelor Mtn and Bruno Meadows highlight the ascent into the Cascades. Water resources are abundant throughout the Willamette National Forest, ranging from the significant Detroit Lake on the western edge to smaller alpine bodies like Mud Puppy Lake and Rainbow Lake.
