About this map

Kakatitkon Indian Village and its associated Cem occupy the northern shore of a large water body on the border of Michigan and Wisconsin. This 2023 survey illustrates a landscape defined by the intersection of the Ottawa National Forest and Nicolet National Forest. The region is a dense network of water and wilderness, where the Paint Wild and Scenic River and its tributary, the South Branch Paint River, flow through the eastern half of the quadrangle. Recreational and interpretive features such as the Imp Lake Interpretive Trl and the Scaup Lake Hunter Trl suggest a modern landscape managed for conservation and selective access. Numerous named islands and points, including Draper Island and Desolation Point, offer specific landmarks for those navigating the shoreline and complex wetlands.
