The Katakitekon Indian Village and its associated Katakitekon Indian Village Cem anchor the southern portion of this landscape along the shores of Lac Vieux Desert. This area, situated near the Michigan-Wisconsin border, illustrates a complex network of glacial lakes and wetlands characteristic of the northern woods. Significant water bodies such as Imp Lake, Taylor Lake, and Stone Lake are interspersed throughout the Ottawa National Forest, which dominates the terrain.
