Indian Head Peak and the southern reaches of the Gillis Range dominate this portion of Mineral County. This arid landscape is defined by the broad expanse of Soda Spring Valley, which sits between the high ground of the Gillis Range to the north and the Garfield Hills to the south. The terrain is marked by deep alluvial fans and drainage systems, including the prominent Paymaster Canyon and the smaller Blackrock Gulch tucked near Martinez Hill.
