Indian Meadow and the surrounding high-desert basins of Adobe Valley define this portion of the eastern Sierra Nevada foothills. Mapping by the USGS reveals a landscape where seasonal water and ranching infrastructure dictate the geography, centered on the Adobe Ranch Rd corridor. The drainage patterns of Adobe Cr and McGee Cr lead toward the intermittent Adobe Lake, illustrating the arid hydrology of the region. Dramatic elevation changes are marked by Granite Mtn and the steep descents of North Canyon and Dexter Canyon. Much of the territory falls within the Inyo National Forest, preserving a network of primitive routes like Alameda Wells and Pizona Spgs that connect remote springs and surveying benchmarks.
