1977 Map of Indian Pond North

About this map

Tarratine and Somerset Junction anchor this late 1970s orthophoto study of the Maine woods in Somerset County. Captured via aerial photography in November, the imagery reveals a landscape defined by the heavy timber of the North Woods and the expansive waters of Indian Pond. The Kennebec River moves through the center of the sheet, joined by the West Outlet and several prominent drainage systems including Misery Stream and Chase Stream. The terrain is marked by significant elevations like Big Squaw Mountain and Cornish Hill. This orthophotograph provides a clear record of the commercial timber infrastructure and road networks that carved through the wilderness near the junction of the Canadian Pacific and Maine Central rail routes at the time of the survey.
