Indian Wells Valley and the northern reaches of the El Paso Mountains converge in this high-desert landscape. The terrain transitions from the alluvial floor of the Mojave Desert into the prominent ridgelines of the Black Hills to the southwest. Surface water is defined by ephemeral drainage patterns, most notably Little Dixie Wash and the outlet of Sage Canyon, which cut through the arid soil towards the valley floor.
