The Cimarron River winds through the southern reaches of this landscape in the Oklahoma Panhandle, defining the lower topography of the High Plains. Above the river valley, the terrain levels out into the expanse known as Irish Flats, a distinctive plateau characteristic of Beaver County. The area is defined by a grid-like network of rural section roads, including AA Rd and GG Rd, which facilitate transport across the open country.
