Genealogists will find a high density of family and community burial grounds throughout the hills, from the Estill County Cem and White Oak Church Cem in the north to the Wagersville Cem and Rice Cem in the south. Much of the eastern and southern portions of the map are preserved within the Daniel Boone National Forest, where deep drainages like Big Doe Cr and Little Doe Cr carve through Barnes Mtn and Curtis Mtn, preserving a more isolated character compared to the river-front settlements.
