Bitterroot Selway Wilderness defines the heart of this mid-1990s Idaho landscape, where the administrative boundaries of the Clearwater National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest converge. The terrain is characterized by high alpine basins and mountain summits, including the namesake Jeanette Mtn, Diablo Mtn, and the distinctive Goat Heaven Peaks in the southwest. A network of primitive trails and remote roads, such as the Powell Moose Creek route, provides the only access through these dense drainages. This high-country environment is dotted with glacial features like Big Sand Lake, Hidden Lake, and the expansive Horse Heaven Meadows. The intricate hydrology of the region is mapped in detail, tracing the headwaters of Moose Creek and Sand Creek as they navigate the sharp elevation changes of the Idaho backcountry.
