Cedar Creek meanders through the center of this landscape, marking the winding boundary between Boone and Callaway counties before reaching the Missouri River in the south. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages including Clifton Cr, Skunk Cr, and Turkey Cr, which carve through the wooded hillsides of the Mark Twain National Forest. Settlement is concentrated in the southeast at Holts Summit, while the small community of Folsom sits to the north.
