1892 Map of Jemez

USGS Topo · Published 1925

About this map

Jemez Indian Reservation and the surrounding high country of the Sierra Nacimiento dominate this late 19th-century reconnaissance. The landscape is defined by dramatic drainage systems, most notably the Cañon de San Diego which funnels Jemez Creek south through the central mountains. Early industry and settlement are sparse but significant, including the San Miguel Mine on the western slopes and the geothermal activity suggested by Sulphur Springs in the northeast.
