Petrified Forest National Park spans the rugged high-desert landscape of this quadrangle, straddling the border between Navajo and Apache counties. The northern portion is defined by a series of overlooks and geologic landmarks, including Kachina Point, Pintado Point, and the natural formation at Onyx Bridge. The topography is deeply incised by the drainage of Lithodendron Wash, which flows southwest toward the park interior. Evidence of early American automotive history is preserved in the southern half of the sheet, where the alignment of Old Rte 66 and Old US Hwy 66 parallels the modern Interstate. This corridor, once a primary artery for cross-country travel, is documented alongside local cattle-country roads like Washboard Rd and Adamana Rd, showing the transition from historic trailways to the organized infrastructure of the modern era.
