1965 Map of Kellog Well

About this map

The high-desert terrain where Catron and Socorro counties meet is defined by deep drainage systems and isolated ranching infrastructure. Mapping by the U.S. Forest Service in the mid-1960s captures a landscape carved by Point of Rocks Canyon and Kellog Canyon, where life was sustained by a network of windmills and water catchments. The Cibola National Forest boundary borders these canyon systems, which historically provided essential shelter and seasonal water in an otherwise arid expanse.
