About this map

Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge dominates the western portion of this mid-century survey, its approximate boundary cutting through the center of the island's interior. The terrain is defined by significant elevations such as Crown Mountain and Center Mountain, with deep glacial valleys and drainage systems flowing toward the surrounding waters. Hydrography, compiled by the Usc&GS, reveals the intricate shoreline of the Kizhuyak Bay to the north and the southern reaches of Ugak Bay. On the eastern side of the quadrangle, a network of coastal streams including Russian Creek, Salonie Creek, and Saltery Creek creates a complex watershed. The presence of Saltery Cove and the protected waters of Hidden Basin highlight the island's coastal geography, while the interior remains a wilderness of sharp ridgelines and named peaks.
