Koehler lies at the mouth of several steep drainages where the mountain front meets the plains of Colfax County. This 2017 survey details a landscape defined by sharp transitions from the narrow corridors of Ox Canyon and Crow Canyon to the wide, open expanses near Koehler Lake. The local drainage system, including Crow Cr and Falls Cr, feeds into the complex agricultural and industrial water network of the Eagle Tail Canal.
