The Diablo Range defines the southwestern landscape of this Fresno County area, where the terrain transitions into a complex system of ridges and canyons. To the northeast, the foothills of the Jacalitos Hills and the Kreyenhagen Hills break away toward the floor of the San Joaquin Valley Central Valley. This transition is marked by numerous drainage features, most notably Jacalitos Cr and the deeply carved Zapato Chino Canyon.
