Krone Ranch and the surrounding ranching landscape of Lewis and Clark County are defined by a complex network of water management features designed to sustain life in this semi-arid region. The presence of the Bean Embody Ditch and the Dearborn Canal underscores the historical importance of irrigation to these local estates, including the La Chapelle Place and the two distinct Upper Ellis Place and Lower Ellis Place homesteads. The terrain is bisected by numerous waterways such as Auchard Cr and Gillette Cr, which flow toward the southern boundary marked by the Dearborn River. This reliance on natural and engineered water sources is further evidenced by the Soap Cr Reservoir situated in the northwestern corner. Rising above the draws and creek beds, Gobblers Knob provides a central landmark for the surrounding townships.
