Lake Coe and a dense network of prairie potholes define this landscape in Eddy County, North Dakota. The area is characterized by scattered wetlands and large, irregularly shaped water bodies such as North Washington Lake, South Washington Lake, and the expansive Cherry Lake. A grid of rural section roads, including 88th Ave NE and 21st St NE, organizes the territory, reflecting the enduring legacy of the Public Land Survey System in the Great Plains. Apart from the aquatic features, the terrain is mostly low-lying, with the exception of the prominent landmark known as Devils Thumb. This 2011 survey illustrates a sparsely populated region where the primary infrastructure consists of local gravel routes like County Rd 8, serving isolated agricultural holdings and providing access to remote fishing and hunting grounds across Medicine Lake and South Twin Lake.
