A dense network of crossroads settlements like Darling Corner and Kingsbury Cor. reveals a highly localized rural economy, while the Boston & Maine R.R. and Canadian Pacific R.R. connect the population centers of Newport and West Derby. The map traces the winding courses of the Clyde River and Barton River, which powered the development of Brownington Village and West Charleston. This sheet captures the region just as traditional road networks like Dutton Road were beginning to integrate with modern rail infrastructure.
